What we do

We are not the only ones who are convinced that Flensburg is a good place to live and work. Many companies and institutions based here also appreciate the high quality of life and the unique mix of German and Danish culture.

We would like to spread this message beyond the borders of our region. That's why we designed our "Flensburg loves you" campaign not only to reach a large audience, but to convey crafty, appealing messages. Whether Facebook postings, posters, banners or T-shirts: the variety is enormous!

You can find a selection of our marketing activities in our annual report in the download area. In addition, we have always provided and continue to provide positive PR with great campaigns. Just take a look:

There hasn't been such an enjoyable event in a long time! On the pier in Glücksburg, we started a record attempt in 2017 and prepared the longest hot dog in the world. The result: 218.70 m and thus a new record! Over 1,000 onlookers came by and did not miss this spectacle.

And our record-breaking hot dog was also a topic of conversation in the media. Already on the day of the event, NDR 1 Welle Nord reported several times live from the pier and R.SH broadcast several pre- and post-event reports. In addition, articles appeared on shz.de and ntv.de. The local media - including Flensborg Avis, Flensburger Tageblatt, Flensburg Journal and Moin Moin - also reported extensively on this unique event. Even television was live on site! There were reports of several minutes on ntv, on RTL in the nationwide morning magazine and on RTL Nord in the evening.

All in all, it was an event that was as entertaining as it was attention-grabbing and made positive headlines all over the country. More impressions of the day can be found here:

The starting signal for our sportiest event was given in 2017: A city like Flensburg simply needs its own marathon! On Whitsunday 2017, the time had finally come: A total of around 1,500 participants took to the starting line and showed top sporting performances in marathons, half marathons and relays.

The second edition of our marathon on June 10, 2018, with 2,200 participants and 15,000 spectators along the route, seamlessly continued the success and enthusiasm of the premiere - and offered new challenges as well as enormous event character. New, for example, were the fun Orion High Heels Fun Run, in which runners demonstrated their sporting spirit in high heels, and the Bambini and Kids Run, in which talents from the age of 5 were allowed to show what they were made of! The organization also continued to grow: over 300 volunteers ensured that the 2nd Flensburg Loves You Marathon ran even more smoothly.

In 2019, there were again a lot of highlights as well as new attractive runs and relays for the more than 2,500 participants* from 26 countries. As in previous years, several starting shots were fired on June 23, 2019. Two absolute stars of the running scene were recruited as running patrons: Lisa and Anna Hahner, known as the "Hahnertwins".

With the realization that the 4th Flensburg liebt dich Marathon in 2020 and 2021 could unfortunately not take place as planned due to the spread of the coronavirus, virtual runs were organized without further ado, where those interested could choose individual routes and publish their best times on the official marathon website. A total of 1,000 running enthusiasts took advantage of this opportunity - for a good cause: the donations collected in the process went to the German Red Cross in Flensburg.

After a two-year break from Corona, the whole of Flensburg was finally back under the sign of our 4th Flensburg Loves You Marathon on May 15, 2022, along the various running routes in the city center and at Flensburg Harbor. Around 1,700 running enthusiasts took part in total, with the very youngest traditionally starting early in the morning. Regardless of whether they were helping hands, spectators or runners themselves, at any age and over any distance - from bambini to kids' run, 5 or 10 km, half marathon or marathon: the joy about the return of Germany's northernmost city run was great among all participants.

Apart from the sporting character of the marathon events, Flensburg gains a lot of positive PR with its marathon with great coverage, both in local and nationwide media. In addition, there is a great response in the social networks, especially Instagram. More information about the Flensburg liebt dich marathon can be found on the official website: www.flensburg-marathon.de.

By the way, the film team of bewegtbild was there regularly and captured the best impressions from the last years:

Flensburg is a special city. And anyone who wants to live here has to pass a special admission ritual: Pumping Flens bottles! This curious statement caused incredulous astonishment among people trying to re-register at the citizens' registration office - and laughter when the hidden camera was unmasked!

We landed a huge hit with our viral clip! The interest was great beyond the borders of the region: For example, articles appeared on the web portal Huffington Post as well as on T-Online, the Berliner Zeitung and the Kölner Stadtanzeiger. In total, we reached around 11 million people within a few days. The clip also won a Golden Dolphin in the Viral category at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards and delighted an international audience. You don't know our video yet? Then please watch it here:

A song of our own for our city - this musical highlight is also thanks to "Flensburg loves you". Visitors to the nospa.OPENAIR on September 1, 2018 at the Harniskai tip were part of a real world premiere when the well-known Flensburg singer Lena Mahrt presented the new Flensburg song for the first time as the opening act for Nena and Gregor Meyle. And automatically also part of the official music video for the Flensburg song - because the concert was filmed live. The desired goosebump feeling was provided by the insertion of the song lyrics on the big screen. This allowed the audience to accompany the performance like a gigantic choir.

The musician, who has already written chart successes in recent years and runs a singing school, is not only a performer but also a composer. The rock song with earworm character was produced by Flensburg producer Benito Battiston. The project was supported by the Nord-Ostsee Sparkasse and the Flensburger Förde Tourism Agency. Here you can listen and watch the musical declaration of love to our city:

The Flensburg Fjord already offers a wide range of small and medium-sized companies and thus plenty of job and career potential, including in the succession of small craft businesses. In short: It is simply so beautiful here that many who come to us once would prefer to stay forever. And we say: Welcome! Because the heart of our region beats for people who can get down to work and are passionate about what they do. And that is rewarded with many advantages. After all, the center of life and the workplace are located here, where others enjoy a dream vacation by the sea, where intact nature leaves plenty of room for personal freedom, and where Flensburg's urban structures provide plenty of variety at the same time. Would you like a little more? With pleasure! Of course, we also have affordable land and housing as well as numerous recreational and educational opportunities for the whole family.

You can find more information about this in our flyer "Flensburg loves crafts - We for the future of our industry".

Episode 1 with Jim Lacy and Kirsten Herrmann

Looks beautiful and creates jobs: We make Flensburg colorful.

Have you ever stood at a traffic light and seen the cube with the Flensburg loves you heart and a supporter logo on one of the lovingly planted flower beds in the city? Your company logo could also be on it and announce: We participate in the campaign "We make Flensburg colorful".

As a supporter, you are associating yourself with a valuable social idea. FDS takes care of the planting and maintenance, so that at the same time jobs are created for people with handicaps or difficult participation in the labor market.

You too can support this great Flensburg success story by taking on a sponsorship for a traffic island or roadside verges to finance their greening as well as maintenance.
